Swedish MastersEurosport 24 & Open 12 March 24-26 2006
Thanks to you all Lars
We had a lot of fun, ask Ugis Viksne and Janis Rage-Ragis from Latvia, they were happy like this for three days.
Scrutineering was done by Andy Wasserman from New York (US), our race controller this year. Birger Elfström, an experienced tech inspector from real car racing, kept an eye on the process.
Jirka Karlík from Czech Republic discusses some important issue concerning the marking of the car.
The full line up of the 35 entries in Eurosport Open 12 awaiting qualifying.
Milos Hojer was one trying it out.
Some people kept on measuring. Anders Gustafson, Guss, tried to figure out what clearance would be needed at start ruling out a tire change.
These damn brushes are so small and the light was not enough, at least not until Shaan lent Christer Helgesson her bedroom light.
You really wonder what Dan Gustafsson's "thumbs up" is for, or is he just counting how many dots there is on his car? Or a strategy of where he wants to end up in the Eurosport race?
There are a lot of small things. Torgny Nordgren is looking through the tire truer for some screws he lost.
Brian Saunders from the UK is working hard soldering his Open 12 motor to the tech block.
This is Mr Berra's very tidy box, while
this is Matti Fyhr's box organised a bit differently.
Talking about organising. Mia and Janne Ekman are involved in a discussion about the consequences of the "day light savings" change of the clock during the night, but
a bit later, when sponsor was introduced, we sort of forgot the time question. Back to the race. Our two juniors, Andreas Jönsson and David Schönfelder did a great first race among the older and more experienced drivers.
Björn Rydin, well known for his artwork on the webpage for ISRA Worlds 2004, was relaxed and had created some trolls exclusively for this event used as trophies for the top qualifiers.
This is Semi E in Open 12, with Sven-Erik Olsson, Mia Ekman, David Schönfelder, Michel Lorin, Michael Landrud (no time in the qualification), Kent Lundström and Mr Berra. Michael was fastest with 359 laps, fourth best overall and in the main.
6th heat clearance and width control.
and Semi D in Open 12, with Sandra Karlikova (CZ), Birger Elfström, Janne Ekman, Andreas Jönsson, Milos Hojer (CZ), Graham Woodward (UK) and Ugis Viksne (LAT). Ugis was quickest with 314 laps ending up overall 19th.
and Semi C, with
Martin Nilsson, Keith Gibson (UK), Lars Harrysson, Steen Michaelsen (DK), Peteris Taurins (LAT), Mikael Palmqvist and Janis Rage-Ragis (LAT). Lars made 346 laps and made the main as number seven.
and Semi B, with
Tommy Berggren, Uffe Törn, Björn Rydin, Torgny Nordgren, Dan Gustafsson, Christer Helgesson and Lars Nørkjear (DK). Torgny was fastest with 341 laps and made the main as number eight.
and finally Semi A, with
Jirka Karlík (CZ), Lasse Åberg, Mikael Gustavsson, Tobias Lestrell, Matti Fyhr (SF), Anders Gustafson and Brian Saunders (UK). Brian, Matti and Tobias all had 362 laps. Together with Jirka and Lasse they filled the main.
Andy controlled us all very well. He will be back next year.
Sandra is doing her marshalling duties with our compliments.
Service break heading for the main. A partial power black out made things a bit darker, but Andy gave us a bit more time, Kai and Bev went to the shop and bought more fuses, I lost my temper, and the situation was resolved.
Those who did not make the main took it very easy. Ugis and Janis are reading Swedish newspapers, Sandra solving another Sudoku, Sven-Erik checking the results on the combined notice board and toilet door. Mia is probably talking with Andy, who knows?
The Main - 8x5 minutes, with
Michael, Jirka, Lasse, Matti, Lars, Torgny, Brian and Tobias.
Finally we had a podium with Lars as runner up, Michael as winner and Lasse concluding the top three.
Sunday and Eurosport 24 I wonder what Andy was doing, perhaps
he was trying to look like a troll????
29 cars to start
Mikael Palmqvist is a coming star showing us how fast he can be, however, not as fast as Matti Fyhr who set a new track record with 4.204
Semi D which showed to be a good one to drive, with
Martin Nilsson, Mr Berra, Mia Ekman, Kent Lundström, Milos Hojer (CZ), Graham Woodward (UK) and Christer Helgesson. Woody made the main and later a seventh place.
Semi C also had one making the main, the car on orange lane belonging to Lars Nørkjear (DK).
In semi C drove Michel Lorin, Esther Firkin (AUS), Torgny Nordgren, Lars Nørkjear (DK), Janne Ekman, Lars Harrysson and Janis Rage-Ragis (LAT).
Semi B was not as successful with the winner finishing on the spot just outside the main.
Steen Michaelsen (DK), Ugis Viksne (LAT), Mikael Palmqvist, Dan Gustafsson, Tobias Lestrell, Anders Gustafson and Tommy Berggren.
Semi A with
Keith Gibson (UK), Mikael Gustavsson, Peteris Taurins (LAT), Jirka Karlík (CZ), Lasse Åberg, Brian Saunders (UK), Michael Landrud and Matti Fyhr (SF). All but Lasse and Mikael G made the main.
In the break Tobias (rookie of the year), Sandra and Esther had a chat with Bev, or perhaps, more likely, Bev told them a good joke. She has some in store...
Preparations .....
The main is coming on
with....
Matti, Jirka, Lars, Woody, Peteris, Keith, Brian and Michael. Six nationalities, competing for the trophies.
and here they are - from Johansfors Glass factory, BPA, Attan, Rydin, and, of course, all other racers filling the cups of the top three.
These guys made it. Brian took his second win in ES24, Jirka made second and Michael third.
For Michael this meant a weekend with a win and a third place. Brian had a win and an eigth, while Jirka had a second and a fifth. All impressing.
Thanks everyone |
